Trust me, mods help out a lot and make your expierience better.
Same as resource packs. They may look ugly compared to the default when you have never used them, but once you use them you'll realize how much better they look. They also may help in pvp by boosting fps and having low fire (so when ur on fire it basically doesn't cover the entire screen).
For a starter resource pack, I'd recommend downloading lolboatz plast pack. It's sorta similar to the default pack but looks a lot better and has low fire (plus it has nice lightning and firework sounds).
tfw u accidentally uninstalled Clash royale and when u re-installed ur account wasn't saved and now u have to figure out how to get it out and ur sad uz u had 3 legendaries and had some good level cards
