At first look I am basking in the glory of the sleek interface along with a familiar friend, the Start Menu. Yes it is back! Digging a bit deeper you can see that Microsoft has been hard at work updated the UI with the Windows 7 feel and the new metro design. I have to say, it has been done quite well. I am still looking for that decisive option between windowed apps and metro, but they seem to mix quite fluidly. The new icons are quite nice, they have been changed in a way to fit the modern era, without being completely unrecognizable.
No performance issues yet, other than a bit of a loading time when opening the settings menu initially. Haven't used it for long enough to get a full feel if it is lacking in any areas.
Please note: Windows 10 is free to all Windows 7 - Windows 8.1 users to upgrade for the next year. *This doesn't mean it expires*
It takes about an hour to install with 3 reboots. Upon first start I recommend not using the express settings and manually set options that collect data to disabled.
I am not expecting a huge performance boost gaming wise until DirectX 12 is released, which will ultimately improve gaming upon developers adapting to the new API. It will however increase the accessibility of games, and make the barrier between you and them very thin.
All of your apps should work with Windows 10 without need of updates, although I'm sure most of them will want to update.
In conclusion I have not used this OS for long enough to give it a definitive rating, but am quite impressed in the work Microsoft has done. I would personally wait a week or so to update in case of some unforeseen major error, which is not likely to happen, but you never know.
