It is bad sportsmanship I agree with you. And unlike what liquidsurprise said there have been numerous forum threads about it. Pretty much everyone agrees it sucks. It is why the mercy kit was made. It is why lots of players leave the server. Even spawn points on certain maps at times have been changed to help lower the rate at which this happens. More spawn points on some maps would still help this.
At any rate a good half the players on mcball are creeps. This is why you always see 8v3 and 6v3 games and stuff like that. Between games players who only care about k/d all join one side, go on teamspeak, and beat up on the weak team.
Not only is it bad sportsmanship but it is boring. But we are talking about people who in general have low self esteem so that is why they put up with it being boring. Rather spawn camp then have a challenging game.
